Summit Mileage Tracker ("Summit," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Summit Mileage Tracker app on your iPhone or Apple device.
1. Information We Collect
Location Data
Summit uses your device's GPS to detect vehicle movement and record trip routes. Location data is collected only while a trip is active or while the app monitors for vehicle movement in the background. This data includes GPS coordinates, speed, timestamps, and distance traveled.
Motion & Sensor Data
The app uses your device's motion activity sensors (accelerometer, Core Motion) to detect when you are in a vehicle. This helps reduce battery usage by only activating GPS tracking when vehicle movement is detected.
Trip Records
Trip data including start time, end time, distance in miles, and GPS waypoints are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
Notification Data
Summit requests permission to send notifications to alert you when a trip starts or ends. These notifications are generated locally on your device and no notification content is stored, transmitted, or shared with any third party.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected solely to:
- Automatically detect and record vehicle trips
- Calculate trip distance, duration, and average speed
- Display your trip history within the app
- Allow you to export your trip data as a CSV file
- Sync your data across your personal Apple devices via iCloud (when enabled)
3. Data Storage & Security
All trip data is stored locally on your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, your data is stored in your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit framework and is protected by Apple's security standards. We do not operate our own servers and do not have access to your trip data.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, share, rent, or transmit your personal data or location information to any third parties. Your data never leaves your device or personal iCloud account.
5. Third-Party Services
Summit does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The app uses only Apple's native frameworks (CoreLocation, CoreMotion, SwiftData, CloudKit).
6. Children's Privacy
Summit is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
7. Your Rights & Data Deletion
You have full control over your data. You can delete individual trips or all trip data at any time from within the app via Settings > Data Management > Delete All Trips. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.
8. Location Permission
Summit requests "Always" location permission to enable background trip detection while the app is not actively open. You can change this permission at any time in iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Summit. Limiting location access to "While Using" will disable automatic background trip detection.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
